Cameron Lake

Cameron Lake is the heart of Fenelon Falls – home of lake culture, community, and the iconic Falls themselves at Lock 34.

Geography, Topography, & Ecology

Calm, level, and clean are three words that well-describe Cameron Lake and its waterfront properties. Fed from Balsam Lake to the West and the Burnt River to the North, Cameron Lake drains into Stugeron Lake through the iconic Fenelon Falls, as well as Lock 34 on the Trent Severn. This steady flow and drain of water contributes to the high flushing rate of the lake. While sharing a maximum depth characteristic of its neighbors on the Trent (roughly 50ft), sections of shoreline along Cameron Lake are particularly shallow. It is not unusual to see 30-40ft long docks on Cameron Lake. Water levels are regulated by Parks Canada, with levels remaining relatively stable through the year – highest in the spring, and lowest in the fall (this is not the case on the Burnt River, where levels swell considerably in the spring, and flooding has historically been an issue in areas).

Cameron Lake features approximately 650 cottages and homes, with many distinct, close communities. Due to it’s central location in Fenelon Falls, Cameron Lake sees a higher proportion of full-time residents than any other lake in the Kawarthas. The average property on Cameron Lake will have about 75 – 100ft of frontage, on just under an acre of land. Waterfront is typically sandy and hard-packed, with excellent (albeit sometimes shallow) swimming. The lake is approximately 6.7km long and 3.5km wide.

Cameron Lake is great for watersports! Being a medium-sized, compact lake, waves do not get too large, even on breezy days, allowing for calm waters for skiiers and wakeboards. Avoid travelling too close to unfamiliar shores, as to not run aground in surprisingly shallow areas. Markers guide boaters traversing the Trent Severn Waterway, and it is common on sunny weekends to see boats from the Western end of the Trent travelling to-and-from Fenelon Falls, a popular boating destination with many restaurants and shops. The Burnt River also offers a great lock-free change of scenery, with many interesting properties to cruise by.

Hugging the East side of Cameron Lake is a segment of the Victoria Rail Trail, a 85km trail stretching from Bethany to Kinmount. The Victoria Rail Trail is popular with walkers, joggers, and ATVs in the warmer months, and snowshoers, cross-country skiiers, and snowmobiles in the winter. The stretch of trail from Fenelon Falls to Kinmount is roughly 32km, and offers some of the most scenic country the Kawarthas has to offer.

Vibe Check

Due to it’s proximity to “town” (Fenelon), Cameron Lake is home to many year-round residents. With relatively low turn-over, it is also home to many multi-generational cottages, with a lot of properties staying in the family and never hitting the market.

It’s the “Cheers” of the Kawarthas – where everybody knows your name, and they’re always glad you came.
